Where settings actually live

Every setting described on this page lives in tCode's own local configuration directory on that machine, sitting alongside your saved login session in the same place.

See Security for exactly what is stored there and, just as importantly, how that directory is specifically protected from being read or written by any tool tCode runs, regardless of what that tool is otherwise allowed to do.

Nothing about these settings is sent anywhere beyond your own account, aside from the one setting, code theme, that is deliberately synced through your account since the web app also reads it.

This directory is created automatically the first time tCode runs successfully on a machine; there is no manual setup step to create it yourself, and nothing about it needs to be referenced directly in normal use.

Uninstalling tCode, covered in Uninstalling, deliberately leaves this directory untouched, which is why settings and your saved login survive a reinstall rather than needing to be redone.
