/effort low, /effort medium, or /effort high trades response depth against speed, and is remembered as your default going forward once set.

Like every other setting on this page, changing it mid-session only affects turns from that point forward, never anything that already ran earlier in the same conversation.

Of everything on this page, effort is the one most people end up adjusting the most often within a single working day, simply because the right level genuinely varies with the specific task in front of you far more than theme or auto-approve preferences typically do.

There is no cost to checking the current level with a bare /effort before a request you are unsure about; it is a fast, side-effect-free way to confirm what you are currently working with before deciding whether to change it.
